I am a fully qualified MBACP registered psychotherapist with an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. See my BACP profile, or find me on Counselling Directory and Psychology Today.
I trained at The University of Derby which enabled me to gain valuable counselling experience through a number of voluntary placements, one of which was with Place2be, a charity working with primary school children using a non directive play approach.
Following this I was employed as a Young Peoples Counsellor for Relate, which was mainly working in schools with children and young people with various concerns including impact of bullying, family issues such as parental separation/divorce, bereavement etc.
I stayed with Relate for a number of years and during this time I qualified as a Relationship Counsellor
I then worked as a CAMHs practitioner for a number of years, progressing to a Clinical Mental Health Specialist and then Team Manager.
CAMHs - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service -working with children and young people and their families with mild to moderate mental health concerns including anxiety, low mood, self harming behaviours, impact of trauma, impact of neglect etc.
With over 10 experience working in CAMHs and Relate I am able to offer support not only to Children and Young people but to parents as well,
as often working with a family approach can help everyone in the family unit enhance their communication skills and address any problems that can arise.
My previous work experience
I was working in retail and was involved in the closing down of a business, I was able to support those being made redundant on a 1-1 basis that helped them feel confident to seek alternative employment. I looked for further training and the rest is history! With my training and experience I feel particularly able to support and challenge people struggling with many concerns, whether individually or as a couple in a relationship.
